No Place For Hate

No Place For Hate is sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), and the Upper St. Clair School District subscribed to it during the 2019-20 school year. In order to be designated as a No Place For Hate School, each school building within the District must convene a committee consisting of students, staff, and community members to plan and implement at least three school-wide activities. These activities must aim to combat hate and discrimination while celebrating inclusivity and diversity.  In addition, the ADL requires each school to provide anti-bias/bullying prevention training. Finally, all students in each of the schools must sign a Resolution of Respect. 

To provide meaningful, student-driven, and building-wide programming aimed at combating hate and discrimination while also celebrating diversity and inclusion.

To establish an equitable and inclusive board of USCHS students and teachers that establishes collective ownership around school-wide programming and fosters a system that supports the promotion of individual club efforts.

The Executive Board is expected to model a process for our school as we continue to support a culture that embraces open and honest conversation. In both formal and informal settings, students that are part of this board are representatives of the clubs that they help lead - so it is expected that they actively listen to their peers and adults as we evolve as a school in ways that continually illustrate the commitment to the progress of our school and aligns with the mission of Unity, Success, and Character. 

The Executive Board will convene monthly to share progress on school-wide programming and to promote individual club efforts. However, depending on the student(s) in charge of upcoming programming, ad-hoc committees will be formed to support initiatives and events.

Explore Identity

Explore and reflect on the multiple aspects of identity and how it consciously and unconsciously shapes one’s worldview. Apply this understanding to recognize the relationship between identity, bias, and power.

Interpret Differences

Recognize the value of diversity in society. Adopt a vocabulary for speaking about differences, prejudice and discrimination, and develop strategies to communicate across differences.

Challenge Bias

Build the capacity to recognize and confront bias within oneself, others and institutions. Examine the relationship between individual biases and systemic oppression, including the impact of intersecting oppressions.

Champion Justice

Put into practice skills to confront bias within oneself, others and institutions and become change agents in one’s community and society. Apply this understanding to bring about a more equitable and just society.
