Freshman Walkthrough, August 7, 12:00 - 3:00, August 10, 11:00 - 3:00
Incoming 9th grade students will have the opportunity to walk their schedule and locate their homeroom and locker on Friday, August 7 from 12:00pm – 3:00pm and Monday, August 10 from 11:00am - 3:00pm. Students can find their locker number and lock combination in the Student Portal under “My Information.” Junior Mentors will be available to assist in navigating the building on August 10.
New Student Orientation, August 10, 9:00am, USCHS Nutrition Center
New families to the district are invited to attend this orientation. There will be two presentations, one for parents and one for students. New families received an email invitation with a RSVP. Contact the counseling office with questions or to RSVP, 412-833-1600 X2290.
College "App Lab", August 11, 9:00am, USCHS Library
This focused workshop is designed exclusively for seniors to support their college application process. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. and lasting 2–3 hours, this event will provide guided instruction and hands-on support with key tools including Maia, the Common Application, and Self-reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS). Students will also receive targeted support with college essay writing, including brainstorming, editing, and feedback. Register HERE by August 7 to attend this senior-only event.

Join the 9th Grade Counselors for a presentation that reviews "life at the high school" such as the daily schedule, MaiaLearning, Freshmen Seminar, and more. We look forward to working with you this year!
Senior Parent Meeting, August 27, 6:30pm, USCHS Theater
Join the 12th Grade Counselors for a presentation of the College Admissions and Applications Process. The presentation begins with an update on college admissions and then a review of MaiaLearning.
South Hills College & Career Fair, October 6, hosted at Bethel Park HS
This annual fair is open to all high school families. There will be 150+ vendors in attendance! Students will have the opportunity to learn about many different types of colleges & post-secondary programs, including 2- and 4-year schools, trade schools, and the military. Students should register at strivescan.com to receive a barcode. This allows students to easily share their information with the colleges they are interested in.
FAFSA Completion Workshop, October 15, 6:00pm, USCHS LGI
Mark your calendar for this interactive workshop for current senior families to complete their FAFSA. More details to come.
ASVAB & PSAT/NMSQT Exam, 10th & 11th Grade Students, October 21
10th grade students will have the opportunity to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) exam or the PSAT (Preliminary SAT). There is no cost to families for the ASVAB exam; students who opt to take the PSAT exam will pay a fee of $21 and must register by September 30. Late registrations will not be accepted.
All 11th grade students are automatically registered for the PSAT/NMSQT exam at no cost to families.
All 10th and 11th grade students are required to arrive at school for homeroom (by 8:00am) on Wednesday, Oct. 21. There will be no approved late starts for this day. Testing will begin promptly after homeroom at 8:10am.

Need a Letter of Recommendation?
Seniors can request letters of recommendation from teachers for college applications through MaiaLearning. First, ensure you've spoken with the teacher in person and secured their agreement to write the letter. Then, from your MaiaLearning Dashboard, click on "Universities" the "Recommendations". Choose a teacher from the list. You will need to specify which colleges the recommendation is for, set a due date, and add a note to the teacher. Make sure your Student Profile and Resume are complete in your MaiaLearning account.
To request a letter from your school counselor, email them and stop in to see them personally.
If you require a letter of recommendation for applications such as summer programs or scholarships, be prepared; personally ask your counselor or teacher at least ten (10) days in advance. It is not guaranteed that the letter will be completed on time if you do not give at least ten (10) days notice.
Need an Unofficial Transcript?
Unofficial transcripts are in your Focus Portal! From your Student Portal > My Information (Or Child Info if in Parent Portal) > Document Management > Report Cards and Unofficial Transcripts.
Electronic Transcript Release Form
This form allows school counselors to send your official transcript electronically. Any student applying to colleges/universities must complete this form.
