Certificate of Global Fluency

The Certificate of Global Fluency is built around three domains that guide each student’s journey:

• Global Coursework – Globally focused classes that explore world issues, cultures, and perspectives.
• Global Engagements – Real-world programs and experiences that connect learning to global challenges.
• Global Encounters – Ongoing participation in globally oriented clubs, events, and initiatives throughout high school.

Requirement: Complete seven (7) globally focused courses (earning a minimum grade of “C”) or meet a minimum number of credits in approved global classes.

Examples Include:

• 21st Century Global Affairs (College in the High School)
• AP Comparative Government & Politics (one semester)
• Intercultural Studies I & II (one semester each)
• Shaping of the Modern World I & II (MYP, Honors, or Academic)
• World Languages (primary and secondary sequences)

A complete list of eligible courses and credits is available through the CGF Canvas course.

Students track their progress in the CGF Canvas Course, which serves as a digital portfolio.

• Each domain requires short reflections and documentation.
• Progress is reviewed by CGF Directors and counselors.
• Final approval is granted by the CGF Committee.
• Students may begin at any time — ideally freshman year — and complete by senior year.
   

By completing the Certificate of Global Fluency, students will:

• Build confidence communicating across cultures.
• Strengthen critical thinking about world issues.
• Gain real-world experiences that shape college and career goals.
• Develop empathy, leadership, and purpose.
• Earn official recognition on their USC transcript.
