Science-Related Clubs
Biology Club
Contact: Dr. Syme
Biology club is an after school club where students participate in biology-related activities. In previous years, the club planted and grew tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, and more!
Environmental Club
Contact: Mrs. Despines
In this club, students pursue environmental interests and try to make environmentally-friendly changes in our school community. Over the years, the Environmental Club members have started paper, can, plastic, battery, ink cartridge, cell phone, and holiday light recycling initiatives, they have helped to eliminate the use of Styrofoam in our Nutrition Center, and planted a Pennsylvania native plants garden on school grounds. The club meets monthly and as needed for projects in the library after school.
PJAS/PRSEF Club
Contact: Mrs. Newman
PRSEF: The Covestro Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair hosts an annual competition of research projects in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. This competition is open to all students in grades 6-12 from the 21 counties within Western Pennsylvania and one county in Maryland. First, second, third, and fourth place are awarded in each category in the Senior (9th-12th), Intermediate (7th-8th) and Junior (6th) Divisions. The Senior and Intermediate Division categories are Behavioral/Social Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science/Math, Earth/Space/Environment, Engineering/Robotics, and Medicine/Health/Microbiology.
PJAS: The Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) is a statewide organization of junior and senior high school students designed to stimulate and promote interest in science among its members through the development of research projects and investigations. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is divided into 12 PJAS regions.
